Our Charity Partner
Heartburn Cancer UK
The Lanesborough team know - from first-hand experience - the dangers of ignoring persistent heartburn, having had two very painful run-ins with cancer of the oesophagus in the last few years.
Since 2021, we have been proud to work with the team at Heartburn Cancer UK, one of the leading charities raising awareness of cancer of the oesophagus, and its precancerous condition, Barrett’s oesophagus.

Heartburn Cancer UK
Gastric and oesophageal cancer has affected the lives of many here at The Lanesborough. In memory of those gone too soon, we have committed to support Heartburn Cancer UK as our chosen charity partner. Heartburn Cancer UK are dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of persistent heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and Barrett's oesophagus. With the generous support of our guests, we will help HCUK collect funds towards a new mobile diagnostic unit, making a new detection test called the Cytosponge more readily available in the community.

Demanding Hope
To mark Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month in 2024, we were delighted to partner with Heartburn Cancer UK, The Cleveland Clinic and Cyted on the "Demanding Hope" awareness campaign, offering free heartburn health checks at The Lanesborough throughout the month.
Workers from across London’s extensive hospitality industry were invited to see if they’re eligible for the simple test, which could save lives. People working in the hospitality industry experience some of the risk factors of developing heartburn, such as high levels of stress and fluctuating work patterns, which means they often eat on the run.
Persistent heartburn is not normal. It can be a warning sign of cancer or a pre-cancerous condition in the oesophagus, called Barrett’s oesophagus, that can then be regularly monitored. But it’s often dismissed, overlooked or masked by the over use of off-the-shelf or over-the-counter medication, such as Gaviscon and Rennie.
